ART and DESIGN at SMINK

The pandemonium of Art and Design is pulling together a great collection under one roof; products designed by big name designers and manufactured by the best companies, and coupling these all together with a beautiful group of fine art, primarily paintings, photographs and sculpture.

SMINK is nearly 25 years old and we represent some very beautiful furniture lines; both contemporary and classic modern, as well as fine art.  We represent Minotti whose head of design is Rudolfo Dordoni; and Living Divani and Porro who both draw heavily on Piero Lissoni.  Molteni & C has work designed by a broad range of designers including Patricia Urquiola, Dordoni, Aldo Rossi, Norman Foster and of course the new licensed collection by the great Italian architect Gio Ponti, that is coming in 2013.  These pieces will be very collectible, and in that way they are similar to ?the Carlos Scarpa designs that come to us thru Simon/Estel. 

We also represent MDF Italia, Arflex, and several other high end lines.  We just received Verden and Linteloo which are out of the Netherlands and which we are very excited about.  Verden is designed by Marcel Wolterinck.  It includes a series of soft seating designs that all cantilever on steel bases, and include a double pillow for maximum comfort.  The pillow tucks in against the structure and is treated in a different fabric, most often a felted wool.  The effect is very artsy and balanced, and will work in a modern classic interior or in a scene right out of ‘Blade Runner’.

For outdoor use we have Kettal, which is the largest outdoor furniture manufacturer in the world.  Kettal is from Spain and has many different collections designed by Patricia Urquiola, Jasper Morrison, Rodolfo Dordoni, Hella Jongerius, and others.  There are classic collections and modern contemporary furniture collections of all kinds; the newest product called Park Life by Morrison, will be introduced in the spring of 2013.  Also, with this grouping we will show Urquiola’s new Cottage design for outdoor living.

Ideally, there are products in our repertoire that will change the way you live and transform your life over the long term.  We hope that over the years you’ll love the way the products, furniture, and fine art look and function in your living spaces; that the removable covers will make it easier to clean your products over time and in the long run you’ll feel that you have spent your money wisely on long lasting products.  Because most certainly these timeless pieces have great longevity and are designed to hand down generation to generation.

In addition to the modern and contemporary furniture, SMINK represents mid-career and established artists primarily from Texas and New Mexico – the Southwest. These artists: Gary Faye, Dara Mark, Paula Roland, Jenny Nelson (NY), Gail Rieke, Dana Newmann, Diane McGregor, Thel, Timothy ?Hearsum, Richard Hogan and Eugene Newmann.  SMINK has also represented the ceramic vessels of Italian artist, Rina Menardi, for over twelve years; and has also represented the hand-blown glass of Arcade studio, including work by Laura de Santillana and Ivan Baj.

Amazing energy can come from the cross-fertilization of ideas that develop between fine art and design.  Form can provide further dialogue to the language implied in a painting. A certain painting or photograph can bind the interior of room together.  Through color, texture, image and scale, art can transport the viewer both emotionally and intellectually.  We provide consulting and education for collectors and for those just starting to acquire art and build a collection.  Collecting art is a lifelong endeavor that can deeply enrich your understanding of the human condition.  We are Dallas fine art gallery enthusiasts.
